Load shedding disrupts the daily routine of most South Africans, and the rolling blackouts present an additional challenge to Overstrand Traffic Administration – especially the sections of:
• Motor Vehicle Registrations (Hermanus – Kleinmond – Gansbaai)
• Fines Section / Court Section
• Drivers Licence Testing Centre (DLTC)
• Vehicle Testing Station (VTS)
During loadshedding this Department with its different subsections can and cannot proceed to render the following functions:
MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS
Can assist with the following:
• Assisting walk-in clients with advice pertaining to motor vehicle licensing and registrations.
• Assisting clients with completing the correct forms for these transactions.
• Collections of licence disks that were done via EFT payments
Cannot assist with the following:
• Performing physical transactions on the E- Natis Computer
• Amounts inquires for vehicle license renewals
• Roadworthy clerk cannot capture any roadworthy applications.
FINES SECTION
Can assist with the following:
• Representation Letters for fines
• General walk-in Fine enquiries
• Physical filing of notices 56 and Section 341’s
• Physical filing of Speed Fine Documentation and preparation for speed notices
Cannot assist with the following:
• Looking up fine statuses/court outcomes on system
• Capture fines on system
• Capture Speed transgressions on system
• Printing of speed notices
• Assist clients with telephone enquiries
DRIVING LICENSE TESTING CENTRE (DLTC)
Can assist with the following:
• Collection of Driver’s licence cards already processed
• Completion of forms pertaining to renewals and new applications
• Advice to walk-in clients
• Conducting Learners Classes
• Conducting Physical Drivers Tests
Cannot assist with the following:
• Physical application for Drivers Licences/PRDP’s & Learners Appointments
• Capturing of Learners applicants that passed their respective leaners tests
• Capturing of Learner Drivers who passed their Driving Tests
• E-Natis enquiries and processing of documentation
• CPA enquiries
VEHICLE TESTING STATION
Can assist with the following:
• Retests that do not need to proceed on the rollers (M/Cycles, Trailers & Caravans)
• Advice on statuses of vehicles coming for roadworthy
• Completion of roadworthy forms/applications
Cannot assist with the following:
• Physical Roadworthy test in VTS to test brakes & Suspension of vehicles
PROCUREMENT OF A GENERATOR
Measures are being taken to ensure that clients receive uninterrupted services during current bouts of load shedding experienced throughout the country.
The Traffic Department engaged with a service provider to test the capacity needed for a generator at the Traffic Administration Office in Hermanus.
Funds was recently made available for this purpose, and they are in the process of writing specs for such a tender.
